Butterflies: The Symbol of Transformation

I had the opportunity to stop by The Alpha House recently and I was blessed with a powerful reminder. You see, Alpha House, as they describe it, “Provides shelter and support services to pregnant women and single parents with infants...Pregnancy testing, counseling, baby clothing, food, formula, furniture; referrals for pre-natal care and housing; residential facility for homeless pregnant women and mothers with infants”.

This is one of those programs that goes somewhat unnoticed, and yet provides such an important service to the people of our community. I happen to notice that one of the symbols in their logo was a butterfly. I have always had a fondness of butterflies, so much that I have made my yard into a butterfly sanctuary. As I have witnessed the whole life cycle of these amazing creatures of beauty, I reminded of the incredible transformational process that the butterfly’s life symbolizes.

Therefore, I was prompted to write the following as tribute to those courageous women and children from Alpha House as they are going through their transformational process... Ken

Butterfly, Butterfly, with beauty in your Heart
Yes, Butterfly, Butterfly, you are God’s living Art

Starting out so small, yes, but a little worm
And all that you could do was to wiggle, toss, and squirm
But even in those days, your wings were in your Heart
Butterfly, my friend, you were given this new start

And slowly you did grow until that day of magic
When you fell into that sleep that felt like death so tragic
Sleeping, yes so long, and little did you know
Of the Transformational Magic, soon that you would show

Feeling quite fatigued and on the verge of quitting
You were given New Life with wings that are so fitting
Yes, wings of marvel and beauty, to take you so, so high
Butterfly, my beautiful friend, it is time for you to fly

Butterfly, Butterfly, with beauty born in your Heart
Butterfly, Butterfly, it’s been there right from the start
Yes, Butterfly, Butterfly, go show the world your Wings
Butterfly, Butterfly, let your Heart now sing
