Illuminations and Sparks of Brilliance Archive of Verse I live in an average suburbia area. Life around here is generally quiet and crime is minimal. On Thursday, January 29, 2004, we had a shooting and two people died as a result. I had some thoughts about that... Man walked in...Voices got loud Shots were fired...Two were fallen from the crowd No one will ever know the truth of the “Why?” Everyone’s affected and this is no lie Revenge and gun is like a match put to gas Too quickly it ignites...The scars forever last We seem to have become quite the violent nation Teaching kids to kill through their Play Station The movies and the TV, they got murders day through night And even on the sports channel, there always is a fight I feel the ripples out there...I hear the disbelief Those fatal shots were fired and my town is now in grief Just one mile away from where I write this poem Don’t know about you, but that’s way too close to home And buying one more gun does not work for me What was made for protection creates the killing spree I believe the only answer lies somewhere in our Heart The only question left, then, is when will we start?
