• I would also love to speak to any groups that you are associated with about the subject of creating divorce-proof marriages. And this is my third request. If you know of a group that would benefit from a fun and educational presentation, please let me know, or give them my contact information. I am very generous with my time and energy for not-for-profit organizations, so let's not worry about the money part. Right now I am much more interested in getting the word out. The money has always come, and I know it always will.

I had a number of my colleagues at the conference ask me about this divorce-proof vision of mine and how I could make such a bold statement. I know that if the vision isn't bold for me, then it is not truly my vision.

But what I told them is the same thing that I have been ranting for years: We are a rather relationally ignorant culture, as evidenced by our 50% plus divorce rate, our domestic violence statistics, and our commitment-phobic- codependent relationship patterns. We MUST start to educate our children with healthy relationship skills, and keep that education going throughout one's life. We all got the three R's of reading, writing and arithmetic in school, but there is another R, and I believe it is the most important R of life: Relationships.

It is time to change that and I am making a stand to call on our major institutions of church, education, business and family to install ongoing relationship education curriculum into our society in early life and keep it going as a core component throughout life. Yes, I am committed to creating divorce-proof marriages. I have seen and experienced the pain and destruction of divorce, and likewise, I know the power and positive impact of the intact family. Can you even imagine how different we would be if there was no divorce, but instead there were happy, thriving, healthy life-partnerships? Think about how big that impact would be on all of our society...and on the entire world.

Okay, time to step off my soapbox (for now) and I am going out for a run to brainstorm ideas for this divorce-proof marriage arena. Stay tuned and hang on to your hats. This is going to be a wicked-awesome ride!!
