"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow,
it only saps today of its joy."
~~ Dr. (Felice) Leo(nardo) Buscaglia
"Today..."
I am afraid that if I reveal my true self, you may reject me, scorn me,
and abandon me.
I am afraid that if I try my hardest to succeed, I may fail time and time again.
I am afraid that if I do succeed I will not be able to handle the responsibility,
accountability, and visibility that always accompanies success.
I am afraid that if I follow my heart, my instincts and my intuition that
I may be wrong in your eyes and in the eyes of others.
I am afraid that if I stand for what I believe I may be left standing alone.
I am afraid if I say something you don’t like that you’ll be angry with
me, won’t like me, and you’ll leave me.
I am afraid that at the end of my lifetime I may have accumulated only
failure and rejection.
And because of these fears I do what I think you want me to do and
do what I think the masses want me to do, and in doing all these things,
I loose my self, my integrity, and my spirit.
However, I have found that there are but only a very few of these fears
that have any truth to them at all.
And so, today, as I navigate through these old beliefs, fears, and
voices from the past, I have only one fear: I fear that when I’m on
my deathbed I’ll look back and see where I sold out to false fear and lived
not a life of authenticity.
Therefore, I hold this moment as the only one I have to allow my true
essence to shine. And when I allow my true self to be the sail on this
vessel of life, I confront these old fears, one-by-one, take back my
personal power and live a life of fearless courage.
